My introduction to the Olmec began with the work of Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, whose scholarship transformed the way many of us understand ancient global connections. I first encountered his name through the thought-provoking lyrics of Nasir Jones (NAS) in the song “We’re Not Alone.” Hearing Van Sertima referenced with such reverence led me to seek out his writings—and the moment I opened one of his books, the vision for the Of Olmec collection took root.
